Summary

There are many new and exciting technologies to use in both my personal and professional life that I found using Web 2.0 training
With some of the technologies I need more time and perhaps a bit of assitance to investigate further
At home I love using Flickr to store images as it saves space on my computer and if my computer gets virus or crashes I don't have to worry about losing my treasured photos.
Google maps is also a bonus to use whether travelling or just getting around new suburbs.
Last year I helped my daughter set up a blog to keep in contact with family and friends while she was holidaying in Africa for 10 weeks. She found it easy to use and everyone enjoyed her updates.

At work, i think using podcasts and video to get information on our website to young people would be worthwhile as they are mediums young people are competent in and enjoy using.
Using Wikis when school classes visit would work well, especially when the children are after information on a particular topic.Using del.icio.us for class topics would also save time and effort searching for suitable websites for the children to use.

Week 9

Podcasts
I found when trying to add a podcast rss feed to my blog I had forgotten how to do it. I took some time and help to successfully complete this segment.
It is something I need to do often develop my skills.
I listened to one podcast a class of primary school children had put together, and thought how we could use podcasts on Brimbank Libraries website to attact young people to information we want to deliver.

audio books

I wasn't impressed with the audio books I saw and listened to.
I was interested in children's audio books but found they were mainly old fashioned, dated or classics.
The concept is great, but I won't investigate further until there are more recent and popular children's books available.

Youtube

Having recently returned from a holiday in Vietnam I was amazed by the roads I had to cross in Saigon. You take your life in your hands, as you can see from the short video clip I found on Youtube. Pedestrians have least right of way, and there are no such things as pedestrian crossings, you just hold your breath, say a prayer and go....

Saigon's Crazy Traffic

Week 8

2.0 Web Awards
I had a look at Google Maps under the "mapping" heading in Web 2.0 awards.
I loved it, it is like haveing a modified GPS.
A few days after looking at Google maps, a patron came in and asked for a Lonely Planet book on Canada.
I inquired further to get more information on how to help her, and found she really wanted a map on how to get from Banff to Vancoverby car. I was able to show her how to use Google maps, we found a map that suited her needs, complete with detailed directions on distance betweeen towns along the way, and the time it would take to complete the journey.
The patron was absolutely delighted and grateful with the information provided, and said she would go home and try it herself.

Online Productivity.
I found Zoho difficult to access. Web marshal was blocking it so I asked IT to unblock it which they did.

I went into it again and was again blocked at a different stage. I found using Zoho writer very frustating.

I had more success with Google docs. It was more straight forward, layout and terminology was familiar, overall very easy to use.
